Senior Project Engineer

Hitachi Energy is seeking an Electrical Engineer for its Transformer Services US engineering team. This role will support the Transformer Services business. This role will be based in the Nashville, TN, Earth City, MO, Crystal Springs, MS office or remote with up to 20% travel required.

You will be a vital member of the engineering team in Transformer Services US.  Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be the go-to person for technical field support related to repairs, retrofits, oil processing as well as completing various engineering studies and creating and documenting processes and procedures.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Using your knowledge and expertise to provide solutions to a variety of technical inquiries both from operations and the quotation team.
  • Be the subject matter expert for field repair and testing.
  • Create test trip packs, review and validate test data and compile test reports.
  • Provide technical support to field crews – 24/7, all US time zones. 
  • Coaching and guiding less experienced colleagues.

  • Knowledge of oil processing and what process and durations are required dependent on oil and transformer conditions.
  • Completing studies and reports for bushing retrofits.
  • Review and provide guidance for oil DGA test results.
  • Perform life and condition assessment and thermal studies.
  • Perform internal inspections and provide on-site technical support.
  • Experience performing electrical field plot analysis.
  • Assessment of non-OEM replacement components.
  • Participate in root cause analysis studies.
  • Create repair scope of work procedures.
  • Communicate status of project/studies and assist with planning and scheduling.
  • Review other engineering team members studies/reports.

Your Background:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering with five or more years of experience or alternatively a combination of studies and ten years or more of transformer experience.
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Experience in design and execution, working as an electrical engineer with transformers.
  • Knowledge of industry standards - IEEE, IEC, NEMA.
  • Experience in repair of medium and large power oil filled transformer from multiple OEM’s.  Knowledge of reactor, rectifier, voltage regulating, and dry type transformers construction and design.    
  • Knowledge of transformer ancillary devices functions and operations.
  • Knowledge of LTC operation and maintenance procedures.  
  • Candidate must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office 365 and AutoCAD.
  • Initiative, creativity and great attention to detail.
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach and strong communication skills.
