Hitachi Energy partners with Pertamina New & Renewable Energy on innovation and technology

Jakarta - Hitachi Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), the nation’s state-owned and largest energy company, on innovation and technology in the field of energy conservation and electric power system.

The signing was carried out by the Country Managing Director of Hitachi Energy in Indonesia, Predrag Grupkovic, and CEO of Pertamina NRE Dannif Danusaputro. In the MoU, both parties agreed to conduct research and develop innovative solutions that can be applied in various sectors, including energy resource management and energy conservation within Pertamina NRE.

"Hitachi Energy is proud to collaborate with Pertamina New & Renewable Energy to help Indonesia make this important energy transition towards a sustainable energy future.  This collaboration will certainly contribute to climate mitigation efforts through the acceleration of Indonesia’s energy transition,” said Predrag during the event.

Predrag underscored the company’s support for Indonesia’s commitment to accelerating the energy transition to achieve its emission reduction targets by 2060.

“We have been supporting Indonesia’s journey to carbon neutrality, and we expect this MoU which fosters collaboration between Hitachi Energy and Pertamina New & Renewable Energy, to further contribute to their energy transition,” he added.

Pertamina NRE CEO Dannif Danusaputro said, "This strategic partnership reflects our commitment to continuously improve energy efficiency and adopt the latest technology to reduce environmental impact. We believe that the collaboration with Hitachi Energy will add value to Pertamina NRE and bring great benefits to the energy industry in Indonesia."

One of the main focuses of this collaboration is the development of technologies to further improve operational efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of Pertamina NRE activities. Hitachi Energy will provide knowledge-sharing assistance to Pertamina NRE particularly on power systems and new and renewable energy. In addition, this collaboration will also include joint technical studies at the macro level related to new and renewable energy, hybrid power systems, reliability, and energy conservation at Pertamina NRE's power plants.

For Pertamina NRE, which manages its Power and New and Renewable business, technological innovation is a very important and strategic aspect. With its collaboration with Hitachi Energy, the company is now even more capable of overseeing the energy transition in Indonesia and further support the achievement of the country’s Net Zero Emission 2060 aspirations.

Hitachi Energy is developing and deploying technologies needed to make the world’s energy system more sustainable, flexible, and secure. It is committed in supporting their customers to advance a sustainable energy future for all. In Indonesia, Hitachi Energy has been continuously supporting the country’s electricity infrastructure for more than 30 years. The company has been involved in several energy transition projects, including the recent microgrid project of Nusa Penida in Bali which was showcased during the G20 Summit held in Bali, Indonesia.
