Leading towards carbon-neutral

In his many roles, Adrian Timbus, Head of Portfolio and Strategic Marketing, Hitachi Energy lives and breathes sustainability.

“I wish to see a carbon-neutral energy system fully powered by wind, solar and hydro energy resources, while the consumption sectors like transportation, buildings and industries electrified to the full extent possible. And this should be accompanied by a full functioning circular economy to minimize waste. I hope that with my skills, my actions and through my job, I can contribute to making this happen,” enthuses Adrian.

He and his team have been orienting the Hitachi Energy product portfolio to accelerate the sustainable future designing solutions for renewable energy production and electrification of key industrial sectors such as transportation, heavy industries and cooling and heating. Early successes include the launch of Grid-eMotion Fleet – a revolutionizing charging system for electrical transportation – last year and the EconiQ - the eco-efficient portfolio of products, services and solutions – earlier this year.

As a leader, Adrian is steadfast in applying eco-design principles and utilizing low carbon materials for the company’s products while providing customers with electrification solutions that help them achieve their green energy goals. Adrian knows that a sustainable energy future is only possible with a diverse and talented people. “I fully support diversity by providing opportunities for our product management and marketing team members to interact with each other and exchange knowledge, ideas and expertise. I am finding that people who speak different languages, who come from different backgrounds and think differently spark great conversations and ideas that improve the knowledge-sharing within the organization, leading to quicker alignment and enabling us to act much faster,” Adrian quipped.

“With European Technology and Innovation Platform for Wind (ETIP), I have the privilege of working and advising the European Commission, institutions and the wind industry on Europe’s roadmap to reach the 2030 and 2050 carbon-neutral goals,” said Adrian. Aligning across key stakeholders and industries on the priorities and the plan to reach our sustainability ambitions is not an easy task but seeing the results we achieved so far, it is rewarding. It is crucial we all contribute to make it happen”, continues Adrian.

Aligning across key stakeholders and industries on the priorities and the plan to reach our sustainability ambitions is not an easy task but seeing the results we achieved so far, it is rewarding.

But sustainability is not achieved only through one’s profession or job. It must become a priority for every one of us, as inhabitants of this planet. “At home, I try to be an example to the community by having the house heated by an electric heat pump and the water heated by solar energy. A couple of years back I decided to exchange my diesel car with an electric one and as a family we try to recycle as much as possible, and to limit the use of single-use plastics such as bags, water bottles and cups,” he added. As human beings, we have the extraordinary power to drive sustainability through our everyday actions. Let us make it happen!
