Training and Development Specialist

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Training and Development Specialist for our Mt. Pleasant and Greensburg plants. In alignment with the North America Hub’s vision and growth strategy, this role will help architect our inaugural training center of excellence. This will include creating product and skill-based learning blueprints, content, and certifications. You will interpret skill matrixes and needs assessments to determine knowledge gaps as well as evaluate and track employee skill development. You will create best practice and troubleshooting documents, infographics, photography, and videos, and deliver content to production employees while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, compliance, and operational excellence. A passion for mentoring, coaching, motivating, and empowering employees to learn and develop is a must.

Working closely with the Training and Development Manager, you will assist with needs assessments, continuous improvement activities, tracking and training metrics/records, learning paths, instructional methodologies, and learning tools. Collaborate with subject matter experts, knowledge owners, learning leaders, and/or stakeholders to design, develop, and review learner-centered, inquiry-based content and hands-on experiences. Partner with cross-functional teams, including Quality, Operations, Training & Development, Process Engineering, and Continuous Improvement Leaders in rolling out training requirements. You will be involved with internal and external audits.

The ideal candidate is skilled in adult learning techniques and has experience in a manufacturing environment.

Experience in manufacturing in a union environment is a plus. This experience includes to be or become proficient in crimping, wiring, torque control technology, power tools and machinery, test and inspection of work, PFMEA/Control Plans, quality assurance, read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and bill of materials (BOMs), PPE, industry audits, lean principles, safety inspection, housekeeping protocols, and possess the ability to explain and teach work instructions and standard operations processes to employees. Perform other duties as assigned. 

Technology tool that you will utilize include Adonis, Cornerstone (Learning management System), EDMS, Thingworx, Digital Passport System, Intelex, Crew View, SAP,  HVPLM, XECM, QDMS (Quality Data Management System), Camtasia, and Articulate 360.

Skill Summary:

The Training and Development Specialist is responsible for supporting the effective execution of a training center of experience for production employees.

Learning Facilitation: Support the acceleration of a learning center of excellence by delivering structured, hands-on training and monitoring progress to ensure skill acquisition and proficiency 

Training Project Management: Lead and participate in training-based projects that align with factory goals, ensuring projects are completed on time and meet quality standards 

Training Documentation: Develop and maintain Job Instruction Breakdowns (JIBs), learning paths, training guides, and other documentation that enhance the effectiveness of on-the-job training 

Training Effectiveness Tracking: Collect and analyze data on training performance and efficiency, using metrics to recommend improvements to programs and processes 

Engagement & Accountability: Encourage employee engagement in training, supporting accountability for learning outcomes and skill development 

Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with plant leaders to identify skill gaps and implement training solutions that address specific operational needs. 

Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify and support opportunities for continuous improvement in training processes and materials. 

Adult Learning Techniques: Apply adult learning principles to develop and deliver engaging, training sessions that improve employee skill retention and advancement  

Support Training Programs: Assist with additional training initiatives and provide on-the-floor support to ensure that training is successfully integrated into daily operations. 

Training & Facilitation: Effective in facilitating training sessions, with a focus on hands-on, practical instruction 

Organizational Skills: Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously 

Communication Skills: Strong communicator, comfortable working with employees

Adaptability: Demonstrates flexibility and is capable of adjusting training approaches to meet the evolving needs of the plant 

Project Management: Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute training-related projects within set timelines 

Proficiency in Data Tracking: Skilled in gathering and analyzing training data, with a focus on continuous improvement
