Feeder protection and control

Utility operators face a challenging and dynamic environment due to the increasing availability of distributed energy resources (DERs) and the need to integrate them into the network.

Innovative automation technologies are emerging as powerful solutions to protect and control the grid against these challenges, steering the industry toward a more sustainable and reliable energy future.

Distribution networks, especially in medium-voltage primary distribution substations require very selective and reliable protection for both incoming and outgoing feeders. Feeder protection plays a key role, enabling operators to prevent damage to equipment, minimize power outages, and ensure a reliable supply of electricity in medium-voltage distribution utility and industrial networks.

To achieve feeder protection and control, Hitachi Energy offers a range of medium-voltage protection relays, offering fast and selective protection to prevent short circuits, overloads, earth faults, and broken conductors. These devices can be used in isolated, resistance-grounded, compensated grounded, and solidly grounded networks, as well as in radial, mesh, or loop distribution systems with or without distributed generation.
