Meet our people: Akoju Nageswara

Calls from customers are the best ones

15 years into my tenure here, I'm still very passionate about what I'm doing. My team provides technical support and cost/benefit analyses for customers in different sectors. Customers might need us to validate the feasibility of adding a piece of equipment onto their existing energy system, or perhaps they are considering integrating a new system and want advice.

The recommendations that my team does play a major role in customer technical and financial investment decisions. We do different analyses such as an industrial network analysis, or a battery energy storage system integration, or an offshore wind farm integration, for example.

When I get a call from a client saying how the advice provided saved them thousands and thousands of dollars and increased vastly their impact and environmental footprint, that makes my day! It doesn’t matter how long my team and I worked on the back end to prepare our report; those calls from customers make everything worthwhile.

My Hitachi Energy journey

I’ve had the opportunity to increase my abilities from day one. When I applied, I was an electrical engineer who had a postgraduate degree in power systems. I had little practical experience.

Hitachi Energy made me grow.

I started my career in 2009 as a technical consultant. Three years later, I was promoted to senior technical consultant on the team in my native country of India. I stayed with the India consulting team for 13 years, then I approached to my management team that I’d like a global assignment. They were so supportive in helping me find an appropriate role within the company.

I moved to United Kingdom to join the Power Consulting team there. I was promoted to principal consultant about a year ago.

Hitachi Energy gave me the best platform to learn and grow in the 15 years I’ve worked here, and I believe that will continue for the future as well.

Collaboration is key

What I particularly enjoy about my team is that no matter where we are, we are one Hitachi Energy. I can reach out to colleagues across the globe to tap the appropriate resources for serving my customers.

I have so many examples of close collaboration helping us get the job done. I believe that nobody alone can know everything. I will reach out to our consulting colleagues in India, Spain, Germany, or US. Maybe they’ll understand the requirements of a particular geographical location better, or the possible compliance issues. Probably next time, they’ll need me to help them.

What goes around comes around

We have a diversified team in UK with mix of juniors, seniors from different geographies, and we are growing as a team and we help each other to grow individually. I mentor three junior consultants of the team: I am guiding them about the sort of problems that may arise on projects and how to solve customer problems.

I also had colleagues who mentored me early in my career. It’s like going from seed, to plant, to tree. Others nurtured me, and now I am a tree who gives shade to others. It’s about contributing to a cycle that makes us better as individuals and as a company and with this we make the world better for all.
