Hitachi Energy is excited to be a Thought Leader Sponsor of the Energy & Mines Australia Summit 2023. We look forward to sharing our insights on the challenges and opportunities presented in the transition to all-electric mining and our commitment to advancing a sustainable energy future for all.

On Wednesday 14 June at 2.40pm join our session on ‘Sustainable energy solutions for an all-electric mine’ presented by Bernard Norton, Hitachi Energy’s Country Managing Director in Australia.

Find out how Hitachi Energy applies deep industry expertise and pioneering technology to help mine operators electrify and decarbonise their power systems.

All mine sites can benefit from electrification and digitalisation regardless of size because reliable, resilient energy is critical to their operations and makes up as much as 30% of total OPEX costs. As mines reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and electrify equipment and fleets, renewable energy consumption will increase.

Major Australian miners including Fortescue Metals Group, BHP and Rio Tinto are already integrating large battery energy storage systems (BESS) with advanced inverters into their mines’ electricity networks as part of their decarbonisation strategies. Others are adding and assessing smaller storage systems as part of mining hybrids.

Mine electrification is a key enabler of automation and digitalisation. The electrification of mining vehicles, equipment and machinery to run on renewable energy is set to deliver many benefits beyond environmental savings, such as reduced operating cost, improved safety and productivity gains.

The all-electric mine doesn’t come without its challenges, such as the need to integrate increasing amounts of energy from intermittent renewable generation sources, whilst ensuring high power quality to maintain the efficiency and productivity of current operations.

Join us at the Energy and Mines Australian Summit 2023 and find out how innovative new technology is being used to accelerate the energy transition, solve power challenges at remote sites and prepare networks for a carbon-neutral future.
