Hitachi Energy secures agreement with RWE to accelerate the energy transition in Europe

Solar power farm aerial view. Renewable energy.
Hitachi Energy has secured a frame agreement with RWE to supply transformers for RWE’s renewable energy projects in Europe. The strategic partnership will enable the build-out of multiple clean energy projects and support Europe’s journey toward net zero.

RWE is among the largest electricity producers in Europe and a key player in the field of renewable energy.

The first-ever framework agreement between the two companies consists of the supply of small power transformers (SPTs) for RWE’s growing pipeline of green energy projects in Europe. The partners established foundational base designs for various SPT transformers sourced from Hitachi Energy. These designs will align with the technical and regulatory specifications of the respective countries where the projects will be accomplished.

Transformers are the key components of electric systems, and they play a pivotal role in enabling a clean and sustainable energy future. Hitachi Energy has a wide transformer design, production, and service footprint and has manufacturing and service facilities in ten European countries.

We thank RWE for the trust, and we are excited to collaborate as a technology partner in advancing multiple renewable energy projects and supporting Europe’s journey toward carbon neutrality. In the pursuit of net zero, it is imperative to embrace solid partnerships and collaboration such as this one, ensuring the scale and speed to decarbonize energy systems.

Renewable energy generation is expected to grow exponentially to meet global climate goals following the latest COP28 agreement. The agreement established clear global targets to triple renewable energy production and double the energy efficiency measures by 2030. Hitachi Energy has a strong track record of supporting the growth of renewable energy in Europe and globally as it advances the world’s energy systems, making them more sustainable, flexible, and secure.

The frame agreement is yet another important collaboration with a large energy company advancing energy system decarbonization across Europe. Earlier, Hitachi Energy Business Unit Transformers, announced a strategic partnership with TenneT to advance a massive grid development program in Germany1.
