Hitachi Energy is seeking a Quality System Engineer within our North American Power Grid – Transformer (PGTR) organization.  The Quality System Engineer will be a key contributor to creating and sustaining a data-driven, closed-loop quality system and the efficient management and continuous improvement of the quality system and key business processes.

The Quality System Engineer will maintain management system procedures, analyze production and quality data to identify trends and drive problem solving efforts, lead ISO 9001:2015 internal & external audits, Customer audits and drive Corrective and Preventative Action plans and activities to closure, including objective evidence of effectiveness.

The Quality System Engineer will be a member of the quality team, reporting to the Quality Manager, and will be accountable for delivering tangible results in support of business plan objectives that eliminate wastes, improve quality, and achieves a stable, predictable process.   

Your Responsibilities:

  • Drive an efficient, practical and continuously improving Quality Management System (QMS) that fully complies to ISO 9001 standards and other quality system requirements.
  • Planning for ISO 9001 internal and external audits, supporting customer and global quality audits, monitoring corrective and preventative actions, and ensuring their successful execution.
  • Monitor adherence to regulatory requirements and internal quality policies, identifying potential non-compliance issues and taking corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver quality training programs to educate employees on quality procedures and standards.
  • As per the company's policy and standards, develop or update the quality procedures and keep the QMS documentation up to date.
  • Ensuring adherence to relevant industry regulations and quality standards related to equipment calibration.
  • Coordinate with outside providers for the calibration, keep track of the calibration record, and schedule routine calibrations for all equipment according to usage, criticality, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Identify non-conformances and opportunities for improvement, applying six-sigma and Quality Engineering methodology to create a data-driven improvement cycle throughout the production environment.
  • Effectively implement Quality Engineering tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) to drive a prevention-based quality system.
  • Lead, participate, and support cross-functional project teams to increase productivity, reduce waste, improve quality, and enhance safety.
  • Track and prepare reports for internal quality performance metrics.
  • Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of non-conformities related to product, processes, or the quality system, and verify the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
  • Additional duties may be assigned, as required.

Your Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering-oriented discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional experience working in engineering, manufacturing, and/or quality.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).
  • ISO 9001:2015 Certified Internal Auditor.
  • Recent professional experience working in Quality Engineering functions in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001)
  • Experience in ISO 9001. Proficiency in MS Office 365, including intermediate and advanced Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical skills, knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes, standard work and process control plans.
  • Experience working with Process Improvement and/or Continuous Improvement practices (e.g. Kaizen, 4Q, DMAIC, Gemba, Root-Cause Analysis [RCA]; etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) in English.
  • Work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the applicable North American facility.
  • Communicating quality metrics and performance updates to management and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills, especially with data analysis, is heavily preferred – proven experience working with FMEA (Failure Modes & Effects Analysis),.
  • Recent experience working with data-driven analytical methodologies for industrial quality applications – especially Statistical Process Control [SPC], Six Sigma, Process Capability (Cp, CpK), and/or Process Performance (Pp, PpK) Analysis.
  • Experience working with Process Improvement and/or Continuous Improvement practices (e.g. Kaizen, 4Q, DMAIC, Gemba, Root-Cause Analysis [RCA]; etc.).
  • Experience in ISO-9001 standards.
  • Knowledge in SAP for the Quality Notification.
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) in English.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting
  • Experience with Minitab, SharePoint, Power BI, and SAP is desired.
  • Experience working in or with product development.
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
