Meet our people: Marta Galczynska, Compensation and Benefits (C&B) for Southern Europe

Marta Galczynska harnesses the positive culture at Hitachi Energy to effectively manage employee remuneration and benefits. She is Polish, lives in Italy and has been with the company for four years.

Making a difference in Hitachi Energy

I take care of Compensation and Benefits (C&B) for Southern Europe, ensuring the fair and accurate compensation and benefits packages for our current and future employees.

To manage this important role effectively, I partner closely with HR in the business. I translate and interpretate the data to be able to put in practice our concrete solutions, for example, my work to assure Gender Pay Equity, which is one of the most important topics in our organization that I have had the privilege to work on.

I enjoy the challenges

To achieve the necessary business growth, we all need to change our mindset and habits as people and employees and align them to the very fast changing global requirements. Across C&B, we constantly follow the new requirements and respond with creative solutions.

You develop more when out of your comfort zone

One of the projects I’ve worked on was Company Car Electrification, which is already implemented in most of   our countries. This required me to develop the competencies of change management, constructive discussion, active listening and influencing others.

Culture eats strategy for breakfast

The culture at Hitachi Energy is an enabler as it’s centred on openness, trust and respect. In our very diverse environment, I’ve noticed over the last four years that this is our strength and greatly helps to influence our ability to collaborate. This is especially important in my role when working with HR Business Partners, HR Operations, Talent, Diversity and Inclusion, Finance, IT and Legal teams.

I’m proud to be working in HR at Hitachi Energy

Being part of company that takes care of employees, people, environment and society is very important to me both as a human and as an employee. This was particularly true when a colleague discovered breast cancer thanks to our company Program of Cancer Prevention in Italy, that we launched for the first time in 2023. Unanimously all stakeholders (HR, Business, Communications, C&B) decided to continue the program this year.

Learning is everything

The best advice I would offer new employees at Hitachi Energy is to enjoy every day, as our environment is all you need to learn and develop. Personally, I have a chance to work with great professionals from different countries and learn from them every day.

I had a chance in my second year at Hitachi Energy to cover my colleague who went on maternity leave and support her Eastern Europe countries – it was a tough time as there were many ongoing projects like new grading implementation, launching HiNext and preparation for the global Annual Salary Review process. Despite it being a tough time, it was a great opportunity for me to learn and grow.

Something hardly anyone knows about me

I love singing but I’m very, very, very bad at it. If you ever hear me sing, you won’t forget… for all the wrong reasons!

In my spare time

How I spend my time outside of work depends on my mood but there are three main activities I never miss: swimming, hiking and reading. I also appreciate trying risky sports like bungee jumping or parachuting but I really enjoy the company of my cat and a good book. Oh, and I love singing to myself!
