On Friday, 27 September 2024, Hitachi Energy Vietnam was announced as the second runner-up in the Green Business of the Year category at the Nordic Business Awards 2024 (NBA2024). This is an annual event hosted by NordCham to celebrate the values and contributions of Nordic businesses in Vietnam.

With 35 applications in five award categories, competition at the NBA 2024 was intense. Hitachi Energy and industry peers such as Kingspan and Vestas, were evaluated on environmental impact, sustainability culture integration and innovation in sustainability for the Green Business of the Year.
In Hitachi Energy, we have placed sustainability at the heart of our Purpose to advance a sustainable energy future for all. Our sustainability strategy’s Planet strand of action aligns with relevant SDGs, targeting to accelerate the clean energy transition, with particular focus on three areas: climate, circular economy, and biodiversity and ecosystems.
In our operations, we deliver across several projects and initiatives, including reducing emissions, consumption, waste, and pollution to the mutual benefit of our economic performance and the environment. Some highlights toward carbon-neutral own operations and Net-zero by 2050 in Vietnam includes: achieving 100% fossil-free electricity in our own operations; phasing-out SF6 gas in High Voltage Factory operation with Dry air testing, and is holds a record of no SF6 emission leakage recorded during the last 5 years; the newly inaugurated transformers factory in Bac Ninh received LEED Gold certification by adhering to prerequisites and credits that address carbon, also energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality.

This is our third year in a row that we received recognition from NordCham. In 2022, we were winner of Best HR Development Strategy, and Employer of the Year in 2023.
* SF6 is a synthetic, odourless gas that’s used in the electricity industry to keep networks running safely and reliably. It’s highly stable, non-toxic, non-flammable and electronegative, which means it will not form other compounds that will alter its state and effectiveness. However, SF6 is the most potent greenhouse gas (GHG) known. It is 23,500 times more effective at trapping infrared radiation than an equivalent amount of CO2 and stays in the atmosphere for more than a thousand years.
