Hitachi ABB Power Grids contribuisce agli obiettivi di transizione energetica sostenibile della Svezia
Key Swedish utility commissioned EconiQTM eco-efficient breaker technology to support reduction of carbon footprint
Hitachi ABB Power Grids is contributing to Sweden's sustainable energy transition with the installation of EconiQTM Live Tank Breaker (LTA) for 145-kilovolt (kV) at Vattenfall Distribution substation in Skövde, Sweden, a town situated between the country's two largest lakes, Vänern and Vättern.
Sweden is one of the nations that is leading the way in developing a sustainable low-carbon economy, with targets towards net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. Building on almost 250 years of combined technology leadership, Hitachi ABB Power Grids has been consistently investing to address the growing demand for eco-efficient solutions.
The new installation at Skövde features the innovative EconiQ high-voltage breaker, that significantly reduces carbon footprint while enhancing reliability. The pioneering technology is based on the use of carbon dioxide (CO2) and oxygen (O2) as an insulation gas mixture instead of the conventional greenhouse gas sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) which has been the norm for decades due to its superior insulation and switching properties. The EconiQ high-voltage portfolio eliminates CO2 equivalent emissions related to the insulation gas and has been proven to significantly reduce the CO2 carbon footprint throughout the total lifecycle.
"We are pleased to support Vattenfall Distribution in the acceleration of Sweden's energy transition with our EconiQ eco-efficient innovation that reduces environmental impact," said Markus Heimbach, Managing Director of the High Voltage Products business at Hitachi ABB Power Grids. "Now, more than ever, pioneering technologies such as the EconiQ is needed to support our customers in enabling a future carbon-neutral energy system”.
