Gen Santos splashes rainbows and raises the Filipino flag toward a sustainable future for all

Meet Our People | 01.06.2023 | 2 min read

Being represented and rewarded inspire confidence and motivation. It is the catalyst for doing significant, meaningful work.

Genesis Santos, Global Content Manager for Grid Integration, The Philippines

I am Genesis Santos, Gen for short. In 2021, I started my journey at Hitachi Energy as the Global Content Manager for a global product group (GPG) in Sweden called HVDC, or high-voltage direct current. I sit at the Philippines’ headquarters under the Global Shared Services Communications Team but work with Europe-based counterparts.

I was Grid Integration and HVDC's first hire from the Global Shared Services Comms team - an Asian, a Filipino, and a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I have supported various communication and campaign needs since then. As part of my role, I met diverse experts and collaborated with professionals when I visited Sweden in November 2022. The land of cinnamon buns and the birthplace of HVDC felt like an extension of home. The trip showed me how representation is more than company jargon.

I have been called the “Life of the Party,” the “Social Butterfly,” but the biggest compliment comes from my stakeholders’ collective response that I excel in content development. “There is only one Genesis Santos,” as my peers always say. I take pride in that, truly, and I owe it to my years of experience and skills.

A year later, I moved up, spearheading all content for the Grid Integration business unit, closely working with the Head of Communications, and cross-functionally collaborating with my colleagues in the Philippines, regional and local communications managers, and GPG Communications Managers under the BU.

For almost two years now, I have found my place at Hitachi Energy. Who I am and what I provide solidify that the underrated Filipino talent is truly world-class. Being a minority did not stop me from being me. I am as valuable as anybody else. It shows that when people are a priority, innovation follows.

Being represented and rewarded inspire confidence and motivation. It is the catalyst for doing significant, meaningful work. At the same time, I thank my colleagues-turned-friends who motivate me to show up. Without them, I would not achieve the outcome that speaks for my work.

I am #ProudtobeHitachiEnergy because I was given a life-changing opportunity to showcase how underrated Filipino talents are. It is an honor to represent the Philippines worldwide. The time is ripe to realize we are truly world-class and even better. We are the best investment Hitachi Energy has ever made. And we are just getting started.
