Today in Seville, Spain, eks Energy marked the first anniversary of its acquisition by Hitachi Energy, celebrating a year of significant growth, innovation, and collaboration that positions the company at the forefront of the clean energy transition. As part of this milestone, eks Energy, a leading supplier of power electronics and energy management solutions for energy storage and renewables integration, unveiled its new office and officially rebranded as part of Hitachi Energy.
Synergized market opportunities
Now operating under the Hitachi Energy brand, this latest step in the integration further addresses the growing needs of utilities, developers, EPCs, and system integrators by complementing Hitachi Energy’s existing e-mesh portfolio with power converters optimized for energy storage and solar integration. The advanced control and automation capabilities of eks Energy’s converters provide a key differentiation that further strengthens Hitachi Energy’s global competitiveness as a system integrator. Furthermore, this merger expands collaboration and co-creation opportunities for energy storage systems, enhancing the overall market offering and accelerating the clean energy transition.
Since the acquisition in October 2023, eks Energy has gained access to new markets and customers, particularly in Europe, the US, and Australia. Hitachi Energy’s strong European presence has been instrumental in its growth, enabling eks Energy to solidify its position in existing markets and explore new commercial opportunities globally.
Massimo Danieli, Managing Director of Hitachi Energy Grid Automation, stated, “Over the past year, the integration of eks Energy into the Hitachi Energy family has created significant synergies. This collaboration has accelerated our joint innovation efforts and expanded our market reach. By combining our strengths, we are developing cutting-edge power electronics that enable greater integration of solar energy into the grid, opening new markets and opportunities globally.”
Accelerating innovation
With eks Energy’s power conversion portfolio complementing Hitachi Energy’s existing storage and system integration businesses, the combined entity offers customers more customized and efficient solutions. Recent projects, such as the Toftlund BESS project in Denmark and the Waratah Super Battery in Australia, illustrate the strength and agility of successful collaboration between the two organizations.
Alberto Prieto, CEO of eks Energy, added, “Joining forces with Hitachi Energy has been a transformative experience for eks Energy. The acquisition has enabled us to maintain our entrepreneurial spirit while leveraging Hitachi Energy’s global reach and resources. This collaboration has led to significant advancements in our product roadmap, enhancing our innovation capabilities and expanding our market presence. We are proud to be at the forefront of the global sustainable energy revolution.”
Liquid-cooled power inverter
Over the past year, eks Energy and Hitachi Energy have made remarkable strides in developing next-generation power electronics. At the start of 2025, the companies will launch a groundbreaking liquid-cooled inverter developed through close cooperation between eks Energy and Hitachi Energy’s R&D teams. Innovations like these, resulting from close collaboration, are crucial for providing the flexibility to integrate a larger share of solar energy into the grid.
In addition to product innovation, eks Energy is expanding its facilities and labs in Seville and utilizing Hitachi Energy labs in the US, Italy, and Australia to support its growing operations. This expansion is a testament to the solid commercial momentum and robust product roadmap that eks Energy has developed under the Hitachi Energy umbrella.
